The Dynamo, Putney (5★)

Back to blog

A cycling cafe that is famous for it's gillets and pro tour teams as it is for it's coffee, the one and only Rapha has found it's way across the mediterranean sea and setup a Clubhouse in Palma Mallorca. As you would expect this particular club house continues to deliver style and a friendly atmosphere in bundles, another MUST stop on your cycling tours of Mallorca.

A stones throw from Putney Bridge and 5 mins from Richmond Park, Dynamo is perfect for the start of a weekend ride. They have bike hooks inside, sheltered seating outside, plenty of tables and pods indoors as well as several screens to watch the Tour de France. They even give a discount to anyone who brings a bike on certain weeknights.

Coffee & Cake

Great cappuccino, good flat white, and a solid selection of teas. It's no Monmoth but you will get a great coffee. Cakes are very good with pastries, banana bread and millionaire shortbread often on the menu. My only advice to Dynamo if you're reading - is please offer to toast the banana bread (it would be soo good!).

Bike Friendly?

Absolutely. If the 5 bikes on the roof & bike hooks in the entry don't convince you, then the vintage bikes & kit hanging from the ceiling will bring you around. It's a great place to go for lunch and watch the Strade Bianchi. They're also super dog friendly btw, see the DogsOfDynamo Instagram account.

Service at The Dynamo

Lovely people but it can take a while if you order food. Luckily the food is excellent so it's hard to complain too much. They don't take reservations so just turn up in the evenings, and I've never failed to get a table (it is busy, they just have a lot of space!).

Right by Putney Bridge

The location for the Dynamo is pretty great, making it perfect to start or end a ride. It's south facing so gets the sun almost all day long, and it's just 10 mins ride from Richmond Park.

Summary for The Dynamo, Putney

This has long been a staple for the local cycling community in South West London. Lot's of space, great atmosphere, and pretty marvellous food. Throw in some exceptional bike friendliness, the perfect layout for watching the classics and some giant bifold doors... And you're all set. Get yourself involved especially on a sunny Sunday morning.

Quick note on the review process

We find the cafe's on our cycling adventures or we're directed to them by friends. From there we rock up on the bike, order coffee, soak up the vibe and speak with the staff. Once we've been there 4/5 times we'll write the review.
