Train-ing

You may not have seen it, but Mallorca has a pretty good train line running from Sa Pobla in the East, right across to Inca, Binissalem, Santa Maria and stopping at Palma in West. The good news is they have a tap-and-go system, a trip to Palma costs just a couple of Euros and you can take your bike on with you. So hit up a sunrise ride from Alcudia to Sa Pobla, train it to Palma, ride to Andratx and right along the north coast. Who's with me?!

Sobremunt

The brutal Sobremunt is usually missed out of itineraries, partly because it's a bit out of the way but also because it's painfully steep and the road surface is horrendous. BUT, it is the hardest climb on the island... So you have to try it.

The full segment is 7.5km with a max incline of 19% and an average of 7.5%. Add in plenty of gravel filled pot holes and you're in for some fun. If you've done Sa Calobra before, this is on average 2% steeper (climbing 580m over 7.2 km, compared to Sa Calobra's 680m over 12km).

Strava has a lot of versions of this segment, and we tend to favour the 'Sobremunt GCN' (Strava Segment) because it's slightly shorter with an average of 10%.

Santuary de la Mare de Déu

Much closer to base if you're staying in Alcudia or Pollenca, this short climb is just a few hundred metres south of Old Town Pollença (Strava Segment) It's just 1.4km long but lifts you 188m with an average of 10% on a slightly gravel spilled, hairpin packed, quad killing kick in the satchel..

Our advice?.. Stick this in as a 'surprise!' race at the end of a long ride, and see who really has the legs. If you want to feel really bad afterwards, check out our friend & local legend Jardi Vanderli's EPIC KOM 5mins 37.

Torre de Ariant

We heard rumours about a climb near Femenia, on a private road owned by a billionaire who didn't want anyone to use it. The story goes that it was always a public road, and the Pollença residents were fighting to maintain access...

All we know is that we found it (Strava Segment) and gave it a go! It's 4.2 km to the top averaging 9%. The road is easy to miss, pretty spectacular and well worth a visit - if you're brave enough to risk it. Our advice is to turn around once you reach the top, and resist the urge to roll down into the private beach.

(To be fair, it looks like the property has recently been passed on, and we got some of the guys from Londons GFT to do it in 2025 without any issues).

'The Wall'

With an average gradient of 15% over just 200m, this little climb packs on hell of a punch (Strava Segment). It is literally like staring at a wall when you ride it, and given it's real name is 'Cuestorro Búger' you won't be surprised to hear it also called 'The Little Bugger'. Crazy hard, crazy fun, and steep enough that you'll need to sit down to keep your front wheel on the floor - this is another one to keep for a 'surprise!' detour with your friends.

Mwahahahaaa.
